Mission Statement

Whether I am working in a classroom or individually with students, my goal as an educator remains consistent: to see students as people first and place humanity at the center of my instruction. I quickly recognize the strengths in my students and celebrate their growth. I am solution oriented and strive to use restorative practices. I work to expand beliefs about ways we can connect in classrooms and what students can achieve.

Placing humanity first looks like accepting where the student is at and knowing it is enough, even if the student has further goals for themself. It looks like recognizing external problems and separating them from the inherent worthiness of the student. It looks like making time for YOU! and not just work.

Through my work over the past 9 years, I have met amazing people and am grateful to have worked alongside many community organizations. I am thrilled to be in New York City and look forward to connecting with schools, organizations, and families here.

Approach

I use a community based and constructivist approach when working with students.

When working to meet specific goals, I find it is important for me, the student, the family, and the teachers to be on the same page and have consistent communication. Building this community helps the student have holistic support and accelerate progress

Through a constructivist approach, a healthy learning environment is built upon knowledge from the educator and student. As I build a relationship with the student, I integrate their interests and experiences into the lesson to create an environment based on shared knowledge.
